The results will assist us with the development of our strategic direction over the next three years. We value your opinion and thoughts which will help us to improve our school.

This survey is for parents, family and whanau members and caregivers and will close at 5pm on Friday, 10 October 2014.

There will be a paper copy available at the office for those who wish to complete the survey in this form.

Unfortunately, we are unable to post the link to the survey on our website, the News Blog, or on Facebook, because of the likelihood of getting false responses from internet 'bots' and people outside our community and even around the world.

Springston School Health Consultation 2014

One of the requirements of the Education Act is to consult with our school community in regards to our health programme and priorities. The purpose of this is to get your input and feedback about the teaching programmes that support the health and well-being of your children. We would appreciate it if you could complete the survey that was recently emailed out to all families, to enable us to provide programmes that meet the needs of our learners. Please note, the link to the survey in the email is now working correctly.

Our school health programme is largely integrated in our school culture e.g. Choice and Challenge, Community Time, Kapa Haka, PE etc. Specific programmes will be covered through our inquiry theme or at a time of specific need. The units  will vary in level, content and length throughout the school.

The Health and Physical Education Curriculum is made up of 4 strands and 7 key learning areas - 4 of which belong to the health curriculum.

A link to the Springston School Health Programme was provided in the email sent to parents. Please complete the survey by Thursday 3 July.

If you would like any further details about our health programme please don't hesitate to ask.

Many thanks
Wendy Hamlin

Make way for Minecraft - an article in 'Education Aotearoa' Magazine

We are grateful to have permission to embed the following article from Education Aotearoa Magazine on our Blog. Click on the image below to view a large version of the article.

Many of your children play Minecraft at home, and some have been lucky enough to be able to play it at school as part of their learning. With that in mind, we thought you might enjoy reading this article to find out how New Zealand teachers are using this tool to make learning exciting and meaningful for their students. Springston School gets a mention too.

There was also a big article about the visit in the Saturday 19 April edition of The Press (page A14 of the print edition, including a great photo showing some of the hilarity that occurred just before the ribbon-cutting).

John Key's visit to Springston's Secret Garden

John Key visited the Secret Garden and talked to a few students about their garden. He talked to them about why they like having their own garden.

People talked to him about worm pee and how it helps the garden - we gave him  a bottle of worm pee. He had a piece of lettuce and talked to special visitors who help and try very hard to support the Secret Garden.
