This is a genuine report, of an extensive earthquake in the Christchurch and Canterbury region, here in New Zealand.
The quake was reportedly 7.1 on the Richter scale and struck at 4:35 am on Saturday 4 September. There have been many significant aftershocks. We are not sure how this will affect our school and families at this stage. Hopefully school families are well-prepared following the extensive learning from last year about how to prepare for a major disaster.
School families should check the Civil Defence website for updates.

Update: 10:00 am Sunday 5 September. Liz and BOT will be checking the school this afternoon to decide how to proceed. We will keep you updated, as long as electricity and internet are available.
Keep track of aftershocks - strength and timing here.

To everyone at Springston School, your families and your community - The Super Scoopers from Dunedin have been e-mailing me over the weekend to find out how you are and I just want to let you know that they are thinking of you at this time. We got enough of a scare on Saturday morning so we can only begin to think what it must be like for you all right now. We will be watching to see if there is anything we can do to help - please let us know.
