Yes, we're under way from today! We're aiming for all students from Year 5 (at least) upwards to get the chance to experience robotics with Lego's Mindstorm NXT. We are lucky to have 2 kits (thank you, PTA!), and are grateful to have been able to borrow a third for another term (thank you, Jason!). Pairs of students will work through a series of Challenge activities designed to introduce them to the basics of robotic programming.
There was lots of fun today for the first group. If you had been lucky enough to observe you would have seen all of the following: puzzled faces, problem-solving, reading and following instructions, interpreting diagrams, questioning, exploring and experimenting, trial and error, saving and naming files, sharing and taking turns, sequencing, physics, angles, fractions, number, rotation, speed, measurement, geometry, questioning, failure, perserverance, determination, success, team-work, negotiation, competition, racing, striving for accuracy, laughter, despair, amazement, excitement, and cheers as challenges were achieved.... all packed into just 2 and a half hours!
If you were a student who took part, how about leaving a short comment below, describing how you felt.
I'm looking forward to seeing you guys in action later this year! Senior Solutions is coming :)
ReplyDeleteI was working in my office as this group were 'playing' in the staff room and was constantly having to pop in and see what all the excitement was about! Liz
ReplyDeleteIt`s great to see other students trying new things and I can say that you will have to give it a go because you don`t know what you can learn from this activity
