Canterbury Gymnastics Competition

On Monday 14 June a small group of children from Springston School went to compete in the Canterbury Primary Schools Gymnastics Competition. We have been training for 6 weeks on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. We have some excellent coaches, Janine, (our main coach) Claire, Megan and Sandy. There are three Grades. They are 1, 2 and 3. In Grade 1 we have Alice T, Isabel, Anton, Scott, Myami, Jackson, Annabelle, Sam and Anna. In Grade 2 there is Emma-Rose, Lucy, Emma, Megan, James and Georgia. Harriet is in Grade 3. Everybody managed to make the team so we all were able to compete.

On Monday morning all of the Grade 1s had to get up in the dark and drive to QEII Gymnasium. They got there at 8.00am and had a stretch. First they had a beam practice and then it was time for judging. The Grade 2s arrived at 9.00 am and warmed up, and then they went upstairs to practise. Harriet got there at 9.30 and practised her routines with the Grade 2s. When it was judging time Harriet came down to the floor to support the Grade 2s and one of the judges even joked that she was our team cheerleader.

Sadly no-one in Grades 1 and 2 were placed although Lucy was a very close 4th on her beam. In Grade 3 Harriet got 2nd on her vault and we were all very proud of her. If you want more results just go to

Congratulations to everybody for giving this competition a go, and thank-you especially to all of our coaches!

  1. WOW - that was amazing! You looked brilliant in all those photographs. Toes were pointed, arms balanced and faces focussed and concentrating. It must have been fun to use all that equipment and share your skills with others.
Thankyou to all the parent helpers that taught you and got you ready for competitions.

Liz might not have graduated out of Purple Group for gymnastics but I remember doing some of those things when I was little - a very long time ago!
